About Me

My photo
Hello, My name is Anna. I am a very busy person and i like to stay busy. Although at times it can get overwhelming but I'm used to it now. ;) or am I??? I am currently a part time student. I used to be full time but my grades suffered so I decided to minimize it. I am also working and a mother of a almost 3 year old. I am a licensed cosmetologist and soon to be CNA. Well I would really like this blog to be dedicated to beauty. I may only have 2 1/2 years of experience but I have always loved this industry. I am always learning new things and would love to share them with you.

My Hair Kit

Everything that you need for hair is in my personal hair kit. I will say that this is only for styling not color or any other chemicals. But if you are a stylist or just like doing hair for fun then this is a good set of things to have at home.By the way I got these ideas from a really really good book called Good to Great Hair by Robert Vetica. But I really like this book and thought he had great tips.
  • A spray water bottle: this is used as a styling product. You can reactivate your hair products that are already in your hair by spritzing them with water or spraying your hands then running your hands through your hair.
  • Leave in conditioner:  use this when you cannot comb through the hair after you already washed it or if the hair feels dry. A spray will be lighter or try a cream for thicker hair. You can also use this product as a styling agent to add weight to the hair and to allow for more control when styling.
  • Heat protector and styling agent(2 in 1): use this when doing a curling iron set. It protects from heat and gives the hair better hold .This is a fairly new product out there and may be hard to find. I will try my best to give you options of each of these items that you can buy in the stores.
  • Liquid silicone: take a small amount of this stuff. Less is more in this case. Use this if your hair is really dry. Rub it into your hands to warm it up before you apply it to your ends unless you feel you need more up higher. For really really dry hair go apply from midshaft to ends. * Always go in a downward direction when applying product. If you go up it can cause split ends and other damage to your hair.
  • Gel: try using a mild gel. Only use it for your hairline. Gels typically have a lot of alcohol so you don't want too much. It can dry out your hair. If you want a sleek look then mix half gel and half styling cream and that should be enough.
  • Spray gel: this is a watered down gel. This is perfect when you are doing finger waves.
  • Styling creams and/or wax-type products: styling creams add more texture to the hair. Clean hair doesn't always hold shape well so by adding this before you style is a good idea. If you want to test this out start out by getting something that you think is too light and then work your way up. This is just a matter of trial and error for each hair type. These products can add shine to your hair too but don't overuse it as it can make it look greasy too.  OK SO JUST A MINI REMINDER: USE STYLING CREAMS AT THE END OF STYLING. STARTING WITH WET HAIR, THEN SPRAY IN LEAVE IN COND. BLOW DRY W/OUT PRODUCT. THEN ADD THE STYLING CREAM. Okay so as far as the wax based products these are heavier than creams and should not be used on fine hair, only on medium course and thick hair. The only exception to fine hair is if the hair is short and you want to create a "piecy" look or you want separation of the layers. JUST A REMINDER THAT WITH EVERY PRODUCT YOU USE YOU SHOULD ALWAYS START WITH A LITTLE AND JUST KEEP ADDING MORE IF NEEDED AND ALWAYS WORK THE PRODUCT IN THE HANDS AND RUB HANDS TOGETHER BEFORE APPLYING.
  • HAIRSPRAY: there are three types: soft hold, medium hold, and firm hold. You can use this when you are blow drying your hair and you can set it with rollers afterward to give it body then use the hairspray as a setting agent by spraying your hair while in rollers. Getting rid of fly aways by spraying your hands until they are wet with product and smooth your palms over the top of your head and along the shape of the style. Use medium hold for this. Use firm hold spray for those updo's or styles that you dont want to move. Let's say if you are going to prom or a wedding etc. There will most likely be a lot of dancing involved.
  • Dry Shampoo: some come in color too. Meaning that you can spray on color if your roots are showing ;) This product is used if you want to freshen up your look. Leave it in for a few minutes to let it absorb all the oils from the day and then give it a good brush through. I like to use the aerosol kind. There is also a powder but I prefer the aerosol. If you have fine hair and you just finished styling your hair it's good to add some thickness to your hair.
